Abstract

Shipment volume of the Greater China notebook PC industry reached about 37.8 million units in the third quarter of 2013, up 5.3% sequentially but down 11.1% year-on-year. The sequential growth is mainly attributed to the mass production of new notebook PCs running on Intel's Haswell processors in the Core i3 and i5 lines and branded vendors' plans to deliver new Haswell products to variants of distribution channels in regional markets. Meanwhile, in order to save transportation costs, branded vendors have chosen to provide their new products to channel distributors by sea. In anticipation of promotional activities in the fourth quarter of 2013 for new Haswell products, the Taiwanese notebook PC industry saw an increase in its shipment volume in the third quarter. In addition, notebook PC bids for the Indian market were closed in September 2013 and shipments of corresponding orders were set to be delivered around August and September, thereby pushing third-quarter shipment volume upward.
